This is the Latest Review of Athlete A. Athlete A (2020) – Review, Recap, Ending, Summary. It is Released on 24 June 2020. It is directed by Bonni Cohen, Jon Shenk.
Netflix is a great source for documentaries of all kinds but it’s especially great in its repository of true crime documentaries so like the summary and Athle day is out now and it takes a look at USA Gymnastics and the scandal surrounding the organization is it worth checking out the documentary is a story of USA Gymnastics the female athletes and Larry Nasser the team physician.
This is a sensitive documentary and the basis for the account is disgusting I’m trying to avoid using certain words right at this moment because YouTube has a tendency to D monetize videos that contain just the words that I’m about to use I think I’m probably far enough into the video where it’s not gonna count it or catch it who knows anyway we’re just gonna get on with the review but this documentary chronicles the abuse that the female athletes endured while at USA Gymnastics.
I mean it happens at the hands of their supposed caretaker who’s a physician the filmmakers do a really good job of getting a lot of interviews from the girls the athletes themselves and it’s tough to watch because they recount what happened to them. I hope that you gonna like my summary. It’s nothing short of an attack on them especially as young kids and most of them now are full-grown women they’re they’re well into adulthood and so this was going on for a while the case that is the basis for this documentary takes a really close look at Maggie Nichols.
Who is one of the female athletes within USA Gymnastics it breaks because she’s overheard by a coach talking to another one of her teammates and the coaches I want something’s not right here and calls the parents and then a supposed investigation begins but when actual legal steps really do happen Maggie who is a minor at the time is identified as athlete a and so that’s all she’s known as on paper now in the documentary?
Who brought the initial charges are the initial just whistleblowing so that this could eventually find an end right after Maggie makes known what had happened I think this is the most disgusting part of the entire story the abuse at that point could have been dealt with it could have been handled it could have been stopped it could have been anything but it wasn’t and that’s really when the story begins to build its momentum and unfortunately that delay in action not on Maggie’s part of her family’s part but on other parts. This is gonna be an epic summary for the viewers.
That allows a predator to still roam free now I like that the documentary does a good job of giving us kind of the history surrounding women’s gymnastics not only just at the Olympic level but even at the elite level and then even into college level and really though it does focus mostly on be at that Olympic level we get to see not only USA athletes but also those from around the world and they do a good job of just showing how that culture that internal just culture of this intense elite sports the training.
They go through all of just the mental preparation the physical preparation the harshness by coaches by just surroundings and everything to compete at that level what that sets up what that creates and how it makes it very easy for a child who has something done to them to believe that that’s just normal that that’s okay or on the flip side for them not to be believed when it does happen because know this environment is it’s top-notch it’s propelling this child into the greatness that they have within them.
The documentary also does a really good job of building up and explaining what USA Gymnastics meant as far as a brand as far as a corporation as far as a money-making operation and money talks and that’s what propels a lot of different things greed propels a whole lot of evils and unfortunately, it makes some people untouchable or so like the review and give your lovely. we think Larry Nasser the physician he is a true predator.
He is subtly and quietly grooming his victims it’s really heartbreaking to hear the stories from the athletes but it’s also then very powerful to watch them take control of their lives and the situation in the face of their attacker there’s a point towards the end where some statements are being read and it absolutely gave me chills it’s a horrendous story to hear and to watch but it’s told extremely well.
It really does make you want to kneecap a lot of people one thing that I also like in this documentary is how they show not only the court case of Larry Nasser but also the investigative journalism that the Indianapolis Star is doing on USA Gymnastics I think you would like my review. They are diving deep into this knot and on NASA himself so they really are working to expose the problems with the organization and its leadership this is a great documentary you to check out it is hard to watch but I think it will leave you with a sense of hope.
It’s not going to just leave you in a total depressed state despite the story content there are some pretty current facts that are told at the very end which details just the current state of investigations and that’s where I really feel that that also leads to a sense of hope the first part is because I know that you will like my review. We get to see and we get to hear these survivors these girls are fiercely brave for would be willing to share their stories on camera.
I highly recommend that you check out the athlete an on Netflix it is one of the better documentaries out there and it’s a pretty quick watch as well the pace moves right along and I was engrossed in it the entire time even though I was grossed out and infuriated by what I was hearing and what I was seeing this is movies and munchies thanks for watching my review.
