I would like to say thank you to MBC use new digital streaming service peacock for granting me the screener to the entire 9 episodes of this new shows the first season they’ve asked me to not spill spoilers, therefore like my summary. This video review is spoiler-free I repeat there are no spoilers in this video review alright let me start by saying that I have never read Aldous Huxley’s books I don’t know whether or not this adaptation is faithful to the original material.
How the story plays out in the novel now with that said brave new world series at least this season 1, in my opinion, is a mixed bag part of it that I really really enjoy and parts of it are unoriginal and dull it will remind you a lot of Westworld actually which is completely understandable but then again you don’t need to go to Westworld to know by now that whenever you have a dystopian society story an uprising is bound to be its eventual turn out based on author Aldous Huxley’s classic novel brave new world centers around a utopian society.
That has achieved peace and harmony through the prohibition of monogamy privacy money family and history as citizens of New London bernard Marx played by Harry Lloyd and La Nina Crown played by Jessica brown Finley embarked on a vacation to the savage lands and like the summary. Where they find them self’s caught in the middle of a violent rebellion Bernard and Lenina are rescued by John the savage played by Alden Ehrenreich.
Who escapes with them back to New London John’s arrival in the utopia however threatens to disrupt the citizen’s harmonious way of living a situation that forces both Bernard and Lenina to grapple with the repercussions serving as showrunner is David whiner who also executive produces this project directed and co-executive produced by Owen Harris okay to explain it a little further in case you’re like me who come into this pretty fresh never having read the books and never having watched the previous adaptations just so you get a better sense of the setting in the future.
There are these World States one of which is the new London where they’ve got rid of the old ways of living there is no religion there is no monogamy everybody belongs to everybody meaning people can sleep around and be as promiscuous as they want but this dystopian City actually has very strict rules its citizens are born of artificial wombs and they have predetermined levels so like my summary. If you are a sign as beta then you’ll be beta forever one of the things that they do to keep you docile and obedient is to have you regularly take this happy little pill called soma now on the other side of the planet is what’s called the savage Lance.
Where the old ways of living still exist so the people in New London would go to the savage Lance just like you and me would go to an amusement park or to a zoo so without giving away too many details the collision between the people of those two respective places is what sparks everything that ensues okay let’s go through the stuff that I enjoy I think in terms of the world-building and the visual effects this show spares no expense it really factors into this show sense of wonderment even the savage lands are fascinating.
They look like movie studio backlot with its own separate but not so sophisticated sound stages this shows many many sects parties are fun to watch but then again which orgy isn’t especially. I hope that you are going to like my review. When you have a huge cast in which 99% of them are drop-dead gorgeous I really like the three leads Harry Lloyd Jessica brown, Findlay, and Alden Ehrenreich.
I’m glad to see Alden landed on his feet after that lukewarm Star Wars solo movie those three characters sort of play a fish-out-of-water game at each other Johnny having difficulties adjusting to the utopia and Burnie and La Nina constantly baffled by the odd things and like the review. That they learned from Johnny the dynamic between them is unstable at best but they’ll keep you engaged even if the narrative feels rudderless and stifled from time to time now on to the parts that are not so great it goes to what I said earlier about the show being unoriginal yes break.
The new world can be pleasing to the eyes aesthetically but the progression of the story itself is nothing more than formulaic and that includes the love triangle and the mystery surrounding the place for a show that wants to be considered and liking my review groundbreaking brave new world sure does a lot of rehashing especially when we the audience’s have grown accustomed to The Hunger Games or divergent despite the fact that Aldous Huxley’s book came First so thank you so much.
