This is a Fantasy Island Review and Summary and Everything you need to know. Starring: Lucy Hale, Maggie Q, Portia Doubleday. I thought this movie was a hot mess. While everything seems confusing at times, it does pull itself together in the end. This is a great way to show how and why Rourke ended up purchasing the island, why the Island does what it does, and how Tattoo ended up working for him.
This is not a horror and its not scary by any means, its just a deeply layered anger fantasy. For those thinking its a “Reboot” it’s not, its more of a Prequel to the show. People rating this poorly need to at least add points for creativity–movies with these unique concepts aren’t made very often so they deserve to be appreciated.
I do agree some plot points could have been pushed further, but overall it was a great film and created a very eerie mood on the island. I don’t love the comedy combination with horror, perhaps it would have been better if it was purely serious, but nothing to complain too much about! I can see why people may not like this film’s cause.
It wasn’t the typical 2011-2019 type storyline/ plotline that viewers have been forced swallowing for almost a decade. In the first 30 minutes or so in Fantasy Island I lost hope cause it looked as if it was following the current movie trends & expectations then it takes a turn for the better, which I think is where it loses a lot of viewers who don’t go back and watch classic films every now and again. Fantasy Island May is not in my top 5 movies but it’s creative and kept me on my toes trying to figure out the film.
I think it shouldn’t have been marketed as a horror film as it honestly isn’t scary, it gave me more of a shutter island mixed with the old TV show LOST kinda feel. It is that bad. Straight off the bat, I got Scooby-Doo mysterious island vibes which is a good thing, but it only went downhill from there. Save the money you would spend on watching this for a cup of coffee instead. Just read the plot on Wikipedia, only a few more clicks away if you’re reading this anyway.
The idea seemed great..but the movie did not pull off any of the potential the idea brought. It’s too bad because it could have been so much better. I did not find this movie hard to understand or confusing at all. I like movies that have a great plot twist. Unfortunately, this movie fails miserably at this.
It just was so silly I wanted to laugh..it would have been so much better if they just didn’t try so hard with all the twists..just ended up being messy and kind of dumb. I don’t think it was as bad as the reviewers made it put to be. It was an interesting plot with a couple of twists. If you pay attention, it’s not at all hard to follow. Maggie Q was great as always as was Michael Pena.
