Summary

What’s up out there everybody today we’re talking about a relic from IFC films directed by Nathalie Erica James the story in this one centers on an elderly woman who suddenly goes missing her daughter and granddaughter arrived to see what they can do to help and like my summary. When this woman mysteriously reappears like nothing is wrong her daughter immediately feels like something is off she questions her mother.

This woman’s dementia begins to manifest itself in very sinister ways her daughter feels not all is right with her mother or her childhood home so let’s get into this movie to see what it delivers no I’ll just open this review by saying I really was impressed with what this movie delivered as a whole I feel Natalie Erica James completely killed it in her full feature directorial debut this was I guess you could say a high concept horror film.

That is something to take into consideration before watching so you know what to expect this isn’t a John remove filled with a lot of thin characters and the string of jump-scares like something from Blum House it certainly does deliver intense imagery but it does it in a much less blatant way which for me actually made these moments even stronger with this film the focus is the story and like this summary being able to connect to it is what I felt made the haunting moments hit with that much more of an impact the script get your mind going.

It gets you thinking outside of the actual story layers being told on-screen and being able to invest in this narrative is what can pull you into this home and to really have you feeling the fear and dread that the characters experience you feel there is something much more to this mystery being unfolded in with teases and subtle imageries to plant the seed that really allows the viewer’s imagination to take over I felt this made the movie that much more engaging.

You can’t always just take what you’re seeing at face value you kind of have this feeling that there is something larger at play that you’re gonna learn about later the daughter Kay starts searching for answers this remote cabin keeps popping up pieces of this cabin have been added to the family home but I hope that you would like the summary and while you’re watching you wonder is it really is the home really haunted with a presence or is what Kay is seeing the manifestations of her mother slowly taking over all three of them and no matter which direction you go it’s interesting.

I enjoyed how the movie posed those different questions and a lot of curiosities I think that naturally just makes it much more compelling than a straightforward horror movie with endless frightening visual attempts I think it’s a haunted house film but a different one it’s one that focuses on the characters and specifically the elder character Edna who seems to be losing her grip on reality as dementia is consuming her you really connect to the characters.

You take the ride with them and it was an appealing gremlin this movie thrives on the performances from the three leads because they were all fantastic Bella Heathcote and Emily Mortimer were both excellent. it is a great summary. They come in and capture a wide range in their character from the beginning of the film to the end and Robin Devin comes in with a phenomenal performance as Edna she has many swings from being that normal kind grandma.

Review

You just want to give a hug too to being completely unhinged as something consumes her and Nevin were just as comforting as she was terrifying in she made this role all that it needed to be for the story so like my review because what this really was was a family drama set inside of a horror film and Mortimer Heathcote and Nevin made those family dynamics as riveting.

They needed to be in order to invest the viewer and all the horror that comes from them the pacing was excellent it progresses through a slow burn during the first two acts but I expect out of you to like this review and enjoy it and continually dials up the tension until the third act lets loose to really slam the viewer with suspense and fascination and all of that blended together into a film.

I really enjoyed I’m gonna give Relic 85% on the meter I liked how the dark energy in this home started to increase and you started to feel more confined inside with the characters you start to want answers as much as they do and it’s just awesome to have a horror movie leave you thinking after the end credits are rolling.

This one certainly did do that I think it did fall back on to a couple John wrote ropes later in the film but it wasn’t a major hindrance and I highly recommend checking this one out if you want a creepy horror movie that treats his audience as if they’re smart thank you so much for watching this review.
